Prioritizing mission this Christmas

I believe God will mercifully deliver us from the prevailing current of Christmas by getting active with the things of God, namely, by living and speaking the Gospel. When we are active in the greatest mission on earth (God's mission of saving the world of sin), we're not going to find much time on these "less important" missions of Christmas. Assembling your kids new toy won't feel so urgent or important when you're praying fervently for your unsaved neighbor, will it?

Let's share some ideas as to what we can do to be actively engaged in God's mission this Christmas. I shared a couple of things in the sermon; I'd love to hear how God might be leading you. Let's encourage and spur one another on.

Thanks,
Pastor Brian

Throughout the year we support several missionaries and children through World Vision and Children International. The checks come out automatically and it is easy to forget about them in the hustle of life. We will be sitting down to discuss each one, what they do, what they mean to our family, and write a thank you to the missionaries and a card of encouragement to our children. Thank you for this series.

Interesting that you mention automatic draft, Anon. What a great idea to write thank you notes to missionaries, and what an encouragement it will be to them to receive them. I have toyed with the idea of using auto draft for giving to save time and postage. But I keep putting it off because I find the time spent writing the checks, filing the receipts, etc. is a time when I can pray for these people and worship God. because it reminds me that anything I can give is a gift to me from God to begin with, and not because of any merit on my part - (C.S. Lewis' Sixpence story)- but I get the blessing of being the conduit in the process.
